Letter from Mayer, M. to Isaac Leeser, written in New York City on November 19, 1859. Mayer informs Leeser that he has been summoned home to Charleston to attend to a pressing matter and requests clarification on who sent Leeser the correspondence between Mayer and a committee that presented Mayer with a testimonial. Mayer explains that the presentation occurred before he refused a request to remain, contrary to how it might appear in the published correspondence and accompanying remarks. He includes a copy of a petition and notes that the Sabbath-Sunday movement in New York has dissolved.
