Description

Kalman Frischman writes to Isaac Leeser from Boston on December 23, 1855, detailing his hardships after immigrating from Hungary five years prior. He emphasizes the assistance he received from Jacob Sachs and his wife in Boston and his unsuccessful attempts to get his writings published by Isaac Wise in Cincinnati. The letter includes excerpts from two letters sent to Wise, one in German and another in Hebrew, along with a sample of Frischman's writing in a style similar to Ashkenazic holiday prayers. Frischman's letter also quotes extensively from the Bible.
