Description

Letter from E. L. Hess of Norfolk, VA, to Isaac Leeser in Philadelphia, PA, dated April 22, 1866. Hess informs Leeser that he gave a lecture at the Norfolk Institute and mentions another candidate, Mr. or Dr. Bean, from New York, recommended by Reverends Einhorn and Adler. Hess seeks Leeser's opinion on Bean and asks for his assistance in influencing the Norfolk Institute's decision, which is to be made on the following Saturday. Hess also provides his Baltimore address and plans to depart for Baltimore the next day. The letter is written on two pages of a single sheet of paper.
